Last night I went to an event hosted by New York Women in Communication:
Fashion Statement: How Dressing for Success Makes You a Better Communicator.
The panel that discussed dressing in the workforce included Nancy Berger, Amy Odell, Eve Pearl, Suze Yalof Schwartz and moderator: Bobbie Thomas.
I was really inspired by these women, especially by Bobbie, who is the style editor of NBC’s Today Show. She gave so many great tips and inspiring words!! The following statements by Bobbie were the ones that stuck with me the most:
“Style is the way you speak to the world without words.”
“Match the ‘outside’ with the best that the ‘inside’ has to offer.”
What I personally took away from the conversation was:
1. Confidence makes the outfit.
2. Comfort rules out trends. If it’s not comfortable, then don’t bother.
3. Accessories can change up an outfit – jewelry, belts, shoes, HAIR and makeup.
4. Dress for the job you want.
5. Real women wear SPANX.
6. Look polished, you don’t necessarily have to be “branded” with labels.
I took a lot out of the conversation last night with these leading women involved with fashion and beauty, and I hope my overview of the event helped you too!
It’s sometimes hard to remove oneself from the constant glittering perfection we see in both models and celebrities. But we have to remember, that they are real women too (they just have stylists to make them look fabulous) and believe it or not, celebrities on the red carpet are in fact, wearing SPANX!
Now, the next time you walk into an interview for your dream job, remember, first impressions do matter so look polished, BUT your mind is what will get you the job.
Keep it fashion forward . . . with your confidence!!
